Aspect ratio
The relationship between a video’s width and height: 9:16 vertical, 1:1 square, 16:9 horizontal.
Aspect ratio describes the shape of the picture, not its quality. 16:9 is the shape of computer screens, television and YouTube; 9:16 that of Reels, TikTok and Shorts; the 1:1 square sits well in feeds; 4:5 is a shorter vertical, common for posts.
The same content is often needed in several ratios. The trap is cropping without thinking: text placed at the edge of a 16:9 video disappears in 9:16.
