Transition
How you move from one shot or scene to the next: a straight cut, a fade, a slide, a zoom…
The most common transition is invisible: the straight cut from one shot to the next. The others (cross-fade, slide, zoom, wipe) get noticed, so they need a reason: a change of subject, time passing, a link between two ideas.
In a short video, a transition that drags costs attention. A good rule: the same transition for the same job throughout the video, and straight cuts everywhere else.
A baking tutorial goes from raw batter to the finished cake with a quick fade: time has passed, no need to say so.
